Ely Earns PCL Pitcher of the Week Honors

April 25, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Albuquerque Isotopes right-hander John Ely has been named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for games beginning on April 18 and continuing through April 24 after coming one out away from throwing the first no-hitter in Isotopes history.

In the second game of a doubleheader at Iowa on April 20, Ely entered the seventh and final inning having not surrendered a hit and promptly struck out the first two batters he faced. With the right-hander just one out away from history, Marquez Smith roped a double down the third base line, breaking up the no-no. Unfazed, Ely then retired the last batter to finish off the one-hit, complete-game shutout, the first of his career.

Ely becomes the first Isotope to win League honors this season and the first pitcher to be singled out since Seth Etherton won PCL Pitcher of the Week for May 24-June1 last year.

Albuquerque continues its series with the New Orleans Zephyrs with a game on Monday before the homestand wraps up with a Business Person's Special on Tuesday. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
