Reno Aces News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-An early seven-run Aces lead and the chance for a series sweep was spoiled by an eight-run fourth inning for Colorado Springs on Thursday, as the Sky Sox rallied past Reno, 18-13, at Security Service Field.

Reno jumped ahead early with a three-run first and plated five in the fourth to take 7-2 lead over the Sky Sox. But the Colorado Springs offense, which had scored just six runs in the previous three games of the series, posted eight runs on seven hits in the home half of the fourth to climb out of its deficit and take a one-run lead. Reno re-took the lead after scoring twice in the sixth, but the Sky Sox would push across eight more runs over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to avoid the series sweep.

Aces starter Kevin Mulvey surrendered 10 runs-nine earned-on 12 hits over five innings of work. Mulvey struck out two and didn't walk a batter in a 77-pitch effort. Ron Mahay (0-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs-three earned-over 2.0 innings of work, and Daniel Stange allowed four runs in one inning of work.

Andy Tracy, Cody Ransom and Wily Mo Peña homered for an Aces club that recorded 16 hits on the day. Three Aces-Collin Cowgill, Ransom and Pena-finished with three hits, and David Winfree drove in three runs. Tony Abreu hit a pinch-hit double in the eighth to extend his hitting streak to a season-long seven-straight games.

Sky Sox righty Sean White (1-0) earned the win out of the bullpen.

With the season-opening road trip now in the rear view mirror, the Aces will begin the first homestand on Friday night at Aces Ballpark. Reno will again take-on the Sky Sox in a four-game set. On Friday, Reno will send RHP Josh Collmenter (1-0, 1.50 ERA) to the hill, while the Sky Sox will counter with former Aces pitcher RHP Billy Buckner (0-0, 4.50 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the game is sold out. Tickets to the Freight House District may be purchased in person on the day of the game.
