Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel announced today that Dave Walkosky will join the club as a defensive coach and that Cornell Brown has accepted a position with Virginia Tech.
¬ÅI ¬â¢m very pleased to be able to add someone with Dave ¬â¢s experience to our staff, ¬Â said Hufnagel. ¬ÅHe has spent time as a defensive coordinator, special-teams coordinator, defensive backs coach, linebackers coach and most recently as a head coach, so I ¬â¢m excited for what he can add to our group. ¬Â
Walkosky becomes the Stamps ¬â¢ linebackers coach while Brent Monson, along with Chris Jones, will coach the defensive line.
Prior to joining the Stampeders, Walkosky served as head coach at Tiffin University for three years (2008-10). His 20-year coaching career also includes assistant coaching positions at Washington State, Toledo, Tennessee-Martin, Waynesburg College and Memphis.
¬ÅI have nothing but respect for John Hufnagel and the job he ¬â¢s done throughout his coaching career and I welcome the opportunity to join his staff, ¬Â said Walkosky. ¬ÅI ¬â¢ve worked with Chris Jones in the past and I ¬â¢m excited to be part of his defensive staff moving forward. I ¬â¢ve heard nothing but great things about the Stampeders organization and I looking forward to building on what this staff has accomplished and helping this team get back to the Grey Cup. ¬Â
A native of Steubenville, Ohio, Walkosky played safety for the University of Toledo while earning a Bachelor's degree in Education. He then earned a Master ¬â¢s degree in Athletic Administration from the University of Memphis. Walkosky and his wife Wendy have four sons, Paulo, Nicolo and twins Matteo and Giano.
The rest of Calgary ¬â¢s coaching staff includes Chris Jones (defensive coordinator and assistant director of player personnel/football operations), Dave Dickenson (offensive coordinator), Mark Kilam (special teams coordinator), Kris Sweet (offensive line), Pete Costanza (receivers), Mike Gibson (running backs) and Tony Missick (defensive backs).
