Texas Legends News Release
Bakersfield, CA - The Texas Legends came from 21 points down to take an eventual second half lead, only to fall 138-134 to the Bakersfield Jam in a high-scoring affair on Friday night at the Jam Events Center.
With the game tied at eight early on, the Jam caught fire. They used a flurry of long balls to go on a 27-6 run and take their largest lead of the game at 21 only nine minutes into the contest. Bakersfield nailed nine of their first 11 three-point attempts.
However, the Legends would respond with a 9-2 run to finish the first and began the second period on a 5-0 sprint to cut the deficit to nine.
Despite a 58% shooting first half for Bakersfield, Texas would hang around and go into the break trailing 74-64.
Stephen Dennis, who came into the game averaging 9.8 points per game, poured in 21 first half points. The 6'6 guard was nearly unstoppable in the opening half, as he was 8-of-11 from the field and 2-2 from beyond the arc.
It was the Legends coming out tough in the third quarter. After Bakersfield scored the first three points of the half, Texas went on an 18-4 run to take an 82-81 lead of their own just over four minutes into the second half. The Jam would take a 98-97 point lead into the final quarter.
With Texas on top 103-102, Bakersfield went on a game-changing 15-2 run that put them on top by 12.
Although Dominique Johnson cut the Jam lead to one with a driving lay up and 39.1 seconds left in the game, Bakersfield knocked down nine of ten clutch free throws in the final 38.3 seconds of the game to hold on for the victory.
The 138 points for the Jam is the highest point total for a Texas opponent in team history, while the Legends 134 points was one shy of a franchise high.
Justin Dentmon led seven double-digit scorers for Texas with 25 points, while Antonio Daniels had the game's lone double-double scoring 21 points and dishing out 10 assists.
Dennis led the way for Bakersfield with a season-high 29 points. Los Angeles Clippers assignee Willie Warren contributed 23 points in the win for the Jam.
The Legends fell to 16-16 on the season after the loss, while the Jam improved to 19-12.
Texas continues their three game series with the Jam tomorrow night with a 9:00 p.m. tip-off time.
