DES MOINES, IA, February 11, 2011- Othyus Jeffers exploded for 34 points as the Iowa Energy held off a late rally to defeat the Dakota Wizards 125-123 Friday night.

Iowa jumped out to a 66-49 halftime lead and appeared to be in control of the game. Dakota cut the lead to 92-78 heading into the 4th, setting up their improbably comeback.

Dakota, who was led by reserve Chris Ayer's 20 point effort, cut the Energy lead to two points several times late in the game. With 2.0 seconds left, and the Energy clinging to a 124-123 lead, Iowa forward Michael Haynes went to the free throw line for two shots. Haynes' first shot fell short. He made the second to put the Energy up two.

After a Dakota timeout, the Wizards found big man Chris Johnson open near the top of the key. The 6'11" center, who recently returned from a stint with the Portland Trailblazers, missed an 18-footer. Neither team could corral the rebound, and the buzzer sounded giving the Energy the win.

Iowa has now been in 1st place in their division for 133 consecutive games.

Chicago Bulls assignee James Johnson and point guard Curtis Stinson each scored 26 points for Iowa, which improves to 24-9 on the year. Courtney Sims added 21 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.

Javaris Crittenton registered a double-double (13 points, 10 assists) for the Wizards, who fall to 11-22 on the season.

The two teams will play again Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Prior to the rematch, two high school games will be played on the arena court. At 3pm, Valley High School boys match up with Indianola. At 5pm, Sioux City East and Cedar Rapids Washington will take to the court.
