Mavericks Sign Former NHL Draft Pick Ryan Jardine

September 30, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL) Missouri Mavericks

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - Missouri Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman announced Thursday the Central Hockey League (CHL) club has signed forward Ryan Jardine.

Jardine, 30 (3/15/80), was the fourth round draft pick (89th overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 1998 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft. In 2001-02, Jardine played in eight games for the Panthers and registered two assists.

"Ryan has played at the highest level, so to bring a player into the locker room with that type of experience is huge for our franchise," said Hillman. "He competes very hard and is a complete player. Our fans will appreciate that he will be one of the hardest working players in the league."

Jardine had a bright career in junior hockey while playing in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) from 1997-2000. He scored 98 goals and recorded 100 assists for 198 points in 198 games over three seasons with the Sault Sainte Marie Greyhounds.

After spending the last five seasons playing in European Elite leagues in Germany, Sweden, Austria and Italy, the 6-foot, 193-pound forward is entering his 11th professional season. A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Jardine scored 16 goals with 13 assists for 29 points in 38 games last season for Bolzano-Bolzen Hockey Club in the Italian Serie A Hockey League. After spending his previous four seasons playing for Bolzano, Jardine also won two Serie A championships with Bolzano HC in 2008 and 2009.

"We want to fill our locker room with 'team first' players that strive for excellence every day and Ryan certainly fits that description," Hillman added. "He will add another dimension of strength to our hockey club."

Jardine last played in the North America during the 2004-05 season for the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL).

The Missouri Mavericks will begin their second season in the Central Hockey League on October 15, 2010 against the Odessa Jackalopes at 7:05 p.m. The Mavericks play their home games at the state-of-the-art Independence Events Center where parking is always free. Tickets for all 33 regular season home games are on sale now starting at just $14 per game. Mini-plans, season tickets and group tickets are also available by calling (816) 252-7825 or visit www.MissouriMavericks.com for more information.
