Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - After securing the second half South Division Championship, coupled with the first half win, the Jacksonville Suns will host games 1 and 2 and, if necessary, games 4 and 5 of the Southern League Divisional Playoffs. Southern League bylaws state that the first half winners shall host the first two games of the series while the second half winners shall host game 3 and games 4 and 5, if necessary. In the event a team wins both halves, which the Suns have done this year, it shall play the first two games of the division playoffs in its home park, the third game in the park of the runner-up club (Mobile Baybears, Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile, Ala.), and the remaining two games, if necessary, in its home park.
Game 1 is scheduled for Thursday September 9th at 7:05pm and Game 2 on Friday September 10th at 7:05pm.
Should Game 4 be necessary it will be played on Sunday September 12th at 7:05 pm, just a few hours after the Jaguars vs. Broncos game at Everbank Field. Due to awkward circumstances caused by playing soon after the end of a Jaguars game, the Suns have announced that fans can receive half-off any Suns ticket by showing a Jaguars ticket from that afternoon. Game 5 would also begin at 7:05pm on Monday September 13th.
For only the second time in Southern League history each division was won by the same team in both halves, as the Tennessee Smokies also secured both halves in the North. In 1992 the Greenville Braves (100-43) won both halves of the Eastern Division while the Chattanooga Lookouts (90-53) took the Western Division. The Smokies are the 15th and the Suns the 16th team in League history to win both halves of their respective divisions in a single season.
The 2010 season also marks the 16th season of at least 80 wins in Jacksonville's professional baseball history, a history dating back to 1904. Since joining the Southern League in 1970 the Suns have won 80 or more games nine times and 2010 marks the fourth time in five seasons.
Playoff tickets are available through the Suns Box Office at (904) 358-2846, or online at www.jaxsuns.com . Tickets are $9.50 for general admission, $12.50 for reserved seating and $15.50 for Homeplate Box seating. The 2010 season is presented by Everbank, official banking partner of the Jacksonville Suns. The Suns are the Double-A Affiliate of the Florida Marlins and a member of the Southern League of Professional Baseball.
