Gillispie Wins Broadcaster of the Year Award

KODAK, Tenn. - In conjunction with the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, the Tennessee Smokies are proud to announce that Smokies radio broadcaster Mick Gillispie has been named its 2010 Radio Broadcaster of the Year, as selected by his peers and league general managers.
Gillispie is finishing up his fourth year as the director of broadcasting for the Smokies Radio Network. In addition to his play-by-play duties, Gillispie oversees the entire Smokies Radio Network staff, including assistants Roger Hoover and Alex Powell, and all aspects of the Network's radio and Internet broadcasts.
"It is certainly an honor to be named the 2010 Southern League Broadcaster of the Year," said Gillispie. "This award is a direct reflection of the wonderful and dedicated staff of people who contribute daily to the Smokies Radio Network broadcast, and our loyal and dedicated audience of listeners."
2010 has been a busy one for the Baltimore, Md. native. Gillispie did play-by-play of select Chicago Cubs Cactus League games during Spring Training for Cubs.com. He also broadcasted University of Alabama baseball, including the 2010 NCAA Super Regional in Clemson, S.C. on the Crimson Tide Sports Network.
Gillispie began his broadcasting career in Tuscaloosa, Ala. with Alabama Public Radio. He then joined WVUA, a non-commercial station affiliated with the University of Alabama, and followed that up with a year announcing for the Wilson Tobs (Coastal Plains League), another with the Salem Avalanche (Carolina League) and two more with the Chattanooga Lookouts (Southern League). He continues to work with the Crimson Tide Sports Network and WTBC-AM 1420 in Tuscaloosa during the offseason.
