JAXX NOTES:
DIAMOND JAXX RECAP: - Leury Bonilla had played all nine positions this season, but not in one game. Leury played all nine positions in Monday's season finale at Pringles Park. The Diamond Jaxx (73-66) beat Chattanooga, 8-0. Bonilla finished the game on the mound by working a scoreless ninth inning. The Jaxx ended the regular season on a five-game winning streak and begin postseason play today. Leury Bonilla hit a homerun and was 1-for-3 with two RBI's on Monday. Nick Franklin had two hits in his Diamond Jaxx debut along with Alex Liddi. The Jaxx scored their eight runs on nine hits. Elian Herrera and Pedro Baez led Chattanooga with two hits each. Jimmy Gillheeney (1-2) tossed three perfect innings before giving up his first hit on Monday. Gillheeney worked six scoreless frames and allowed just three hits in his first Double-A victory. David Pfeiffer (7-5) suffered the loss for the Lookouts and surrendered seven runs on eight hits in five innings.
DIAMOND JAXX TO BECOME JACKSON GENERALS: Immediately following the final regular season game of the 2010 season, the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx revealed their new name and logo. Digging way back to 1935, the owners of Jackson Baseball Club (the ownership group of the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx) announced that starting in the 2011 season the team will be known as the Jackson Generals.
BUSY BONILLA PLAYS ALL NINE POSITIONS: The Dominican infielder began the game on Monday in center field and played left and right over the first three innings before moving to second in the fourth. He moved to shortstop in the fifth, third in the sixth and walked across the diamond to first in the seventh. The real test began in the eighth when he jumped behind the plate and caught reliever Aaron Jensen's scoreless inning -- the right-hander struck out two. Bonilla then pitched a scoreless ninth in his third relief appearance of the year, striking out one and getting a game ending double-play.
SAVO NAMED SL HITTER OF THE WEEK: Savastano had the most extra-base hits in the league last week (6) as well as the highest slugging percentage (1.000) and OPS (1.500). He tied the league best for the week with his nine RBI, as well as tying in homeruns (2) and total bases (20).
1ST PLAYOFF BERTH SINCE '08: The playoff berth is the first for the Diamond Jaxx since 2008 when they won the first-half championship in a one-game playoff over the Huntsville Stars.
LIDDI ENDS SEASON WITH 14-GAME HIT STREAK: Alex Liddi finished 1st in the Southern League with 92 RBI's, the second most in Jaxx history (record is 99 by Julio Zuleta in 1999) and finished the regular season on a 14-game hitting streak. Second-most by a Jaxx player this year.
JAXX SAY THANKS BY OFFERING FREE PLAYOFF TICKETS: The Diamond Jaxx announced on Tuesday afternoon that all fans will receive free admission to Game three of the Southern League North Divisional Playoff game that will be held at Pringles Park on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at 5:05pm.
