Baez was 3-3 with a 5.14 ERA in 45 relief appearances with the Phillies before landing on the disabled list on Aug. 27 (retroactive to Aug. 25) with back spasms. In 42.0 innings pitched this season, the 32-year-old has yielded 49 hits and 21 walks while striking out 23 batters.

The Cuban native signed a two-year contract with the Phillies on Jan. 5, 2010 after going 4-6 with a 4.02 ERA in 59 games for the Baltimore Orioles last season. However, in 57 of those 59 appearances Baez posted a 2.92 ERA -- allowing nine earned runs in 0.2 innings in the other two games.

Baez, a veteran of over eight Major League seasons, missed the entire 2008 campaign after undergoing right elbow surgery following the 2007 season. Currently, the 6-3, 225-pounder posted a career record of 38-52, 4.11 ERA and 114 saves in 498 games, 26 starts. His best season in the Majors came back in 2005 when the right-hander went 5-4 with a 2.86 ERA and 41 saves for Tampa Bay.

Originally signed by the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent in 1999, Baez spent three seasons in an Indians uniform to start his Big League career before signing with Tampa Bay in 2004. Baez has also spent time with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves in 2006.
