Lake Erie Crushers News Release

AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers ran their win streak to five games by virtue of a 3-2 victory over the Washington Wild Things on Thursday night to sweep the series.

The Crushers failed to place a runner on base through the first 3.1 innings against Washington starter jeff Sonnenberg. That changed when Wayne Bond tripled into the right-center gap with one out in the fourth. Andrew Davis singled up the middle through a drawn in infield to score Bond with the first run. Davis scored from second on a double off the bat of Lee Huggins as the Crushers opened a 2-0 edge.

Washington evened the score in the sixth against Lake Erie starter Alberto Rolon. Michael Parker was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on a double to left-center by Jon Kourie. Mark McGonigle posted a bases loaded single to score Wilson Matos and tie the game. Alberto Rolon threw seven innings in his final start of the season, allowing just the two runs on eight hits to go with a walk and six strikeouts.

Lake Erie tallied the winning run in the bottom of the eighth against Washington closer Eryk McConnell. Jake Krause posted an infield single with one out and was replaced at second by Dom Duggan on a fielder's choice. Duggan promptly stole second, adding to his league leading and team record total with his 46th of the year. Wayne Bond singled through the right side and Duggan beat the tag of catcher Billy O'Conner to jump ahead.

Three of the six hits for Lake Erie went for extra bases. Wayne Bond finished 2-for-4 with a triple, a run, and an RBI.
