Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
The Savannah Sand Gnats crushed the Greensboro Grasshoppers 11-0 Wednesday night at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, NC.
The Gnats have now pounded out 32 runs in the first three games of their series against the Grasshoppers.
The Gnats (29-35/71-63) got going early.
In the top of the first inning, DH Robbie Shields singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single from 3B Aderlin Rodriguez.
Shields, who was 3-4 with two walks, three runs scored and an RBI on Wednesday is now 8-14 with six RBI and six runs scored in the first three games of the series in against the Grasshoppers (33-32/65-70).
The 18-year old Rodriguez has hit safely in each of his first three games with the Gnats and has seven RBI in those three contests.
Savannah added three runs in the second to make the score 4-0.
The key hits were an RBI double by RF Cody Holliday and a two-run single by Shields.
Two more runs in the fourth on RBI singles from 1B Travis Ozga and LF R.J. Harris made the score 6-0.
That was more than enough for Collin McHugh (6-8, 3.46) who tossed six shutout innings.
He struck out five and did not walk a batter while yielding just three hits.
In the seventh, he gave way to Michael Hebert, who was added to the Savannah roster earlier in the day.
Hebert threw three scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts in his Savannah debut.
Savannah added single runs in the sixth, seventh, and ninth innings and two in the eighth to complete the game's scoring.
The Gnats play their final road game of the regular season Thursday night in Greensboro when they send RHP Armando Rodriguez (7-9, 3.19) to the hill with first pitch scheduled for 7 pm.
Next Home Game
The Gnats begin their final home stand of the regular season on Friday, September 3rd against the Asheville Tourists.
It will be a special Nine Innings of TV Giveaway where the Gnats will give away a TV every inning of the game, concluding with the grand prize in the ninth.

Savannah will open the 2010 playoffs at the home of the second-half champion on Wednesday, September 8.
After an off-day, Historic Grayson Stadium will host its first playoff game in 14 years on Friday, September 10, with a vuvuzela horn giveaway presented by the Tate Law Group.
