Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
Lethbridge, AB - It's always a great day for a parade! And the Lethbridge Hurricanes were eager to get in on the action as the Whoop Up Days Parade marked the beginning of the five day family festival. Max Ross, Mitch Maxwell, Cason Machacek joined honorary Parade Marshall and former Hurricanes forward Kris Versteeg - while the World's Greatest Mascot Twister teamed up with the Hurricanes Radio play by play partner 94.1FM The Lounge to take part in the festivities on Tuesday morning. Versteeg, the hometown hero was dubbed the honorary Parade Marshall after bringing the 2010 Stanley Cup back to Lethbridge as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Versteeg, a Lethbridge native, played for four seasons in the WHL - his first three with his hometown Hurricanes - notching a career-best 22 goals and 52 points during the 2004-05 season. In 2003-04 he tied Florida Panthers prospect Nick Tarnasky for the team scoring title before being drafted in the fifth round, 134th overall in the 2004 NHL Draft. Versteeg, a Calder trophy nominee in 08-09 for the NHL's Rookie of the Year finished the 2010 Playoffs with 14 points (6G, 8A) and a pair of game winning goals
"It's a great accomplishment for Kris and his Chicago Blackhawk teammates to have won the Stanley Cup and it is only fitting that Exhibition Park bestow this honor on him" said Hurricanes GM Rich Preston "Not only that, but it's great for some of our current players to get out into the community and be included in this prestigious event."
The Hurricanes would like to congratulate Kris on his accomplishments and the honor of being named the Honorary Parade Marshall as he continues to give back to the Lethbridge community. The Canes would also like to thank 94.1FM The Lounge, the official radio play by play voice of Hurricanes Hockey for their support.
Whoop up Days will run from August 24-28 at Exhibition Park, for more details log on to the Exhibition Park website at: http://www.exhibitionpark.ca/index.php/general-events/2010-events/whoop-up-d ays
