Hotchkiss, Joseph Promoted to Double-A

The Cincinnati Reds have announced the promotions of reliever Donnie Joseph and starter Jordan Hotchkiss from Advanced-A Lynchburg to Double-A Carolina. Joseph earned 17 saves with a 2.31 ERA in 31 games in Lynchburg. In 31 games and 15 starts, Hotchkiss was 10-4 with a 2.30 ERA.

Joseph started the season with Low-A Dayton where he asserted himself as the closer in the Dragons bullpen. In 19 games, he was 2-1 with six saves. He threw 23 innings and struck out 40, while only walking seven. He made his first appearance for Lynchburg May 29 and struck out five. For the Hillcats, he earned 17 saves in 19 opportunities. In 35 innings, he struck out 56 and walked 16. This season, he is 23-for-27 (85%) in save opportunities.

Joseph ended his time in Lynchburg ranked second in the Carolina League with the 17 saves. He finished 27 games, which ranks fourth in the league as well. Opponents hit only .181 against him, and he racked up a 3.5 strikeout/walk ratio. The Reds took Joseph with their 3rd round pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

Hotchkiss started 2010 in the bullpen for Lynchburg. He made 15 appearances out of the bullpen before making a spot start in the second game of a doubleheader May 29. After that game, he came out of the bullpen only once, and started every other appearance. As a reliever, Hotchkiss was 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA in 16 games. Hotchkiss was 6-4 with a 2.63 ERA in 15 starts. He struck out 71 and walked 23 in 85.2 innings pitched. Opponents hit only .211 against him.

Hotchkiss leaves Lynchburg as the Carolina League Leader in ERA and winning percentage (71.4). He's tied for second in wins with 10 and WHIP (1.03), and third in the league in opponent's average. Hotchkiss was selected by Cincinnati in the 31st round of the 2007 MLB Draft

The Hillcats return home Monday for their final homestand of the season. Lynchburg will host Winston-Salem for four games and Wilmington for three. Monday's series opener against Winston-Salem is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., gates open at 6.
