Niles, OH - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers beat the Williamsport Crosscutters 5-0 tonight at Eastwood Field to snap a two-game losing streak.
Giovanny Urshela's two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that broke a scoreless tie proved to be the difference as Kirk Wetmore and the bullpen shutout the Crosscutters.
Wetmore earned his first win of the season pitching six scoreless innings, giving up one hit, striking out five and walking just two.
Kevin Angelle picked up his first loss of the season for the Crosscutters lasting six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out three.
The Scrappers will look for the sweep of Williamsport as they play game two of this two-game series tomorrow night. First pitch is at 5:05 p.m.
