Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Harrisburg, PA)- In ten games this season, the Harrisburg Senators have had the Portland Sea Dogs' number. Harrisburg entered Saturday night's contest with a 7-2 lead in the season series, and had little trouble adding to it. The Senators scored twice in the first, three times in the third, and five times in the fourth, as they cruised to a 10-0 victory at Metro Bank Park.
The Senators' first runs came early, as Danny Espinosa led off the game with a single, before Josh Johnson doubled, putting two runners in scoring position. Marvin Lowrance grounded out to second for the first out of the inning, but Espinosa came in to score on the play. After Chris Marrero reached on catcher's interference, Jesus Valdez tapped a ball back to the mound. However, Casey Kelly's throw eluded the second base bag, giving Harrisburg a 2-0 lead.
That lead was extended in the third, when the home team had five consecutive hitters reach base with one out. Josh Johnson and Marvin Lowrance started the rally with back-to-back singles. Chris Marrero and Jesus Valdez followed with back-to-back walks, producing the first run of the frame. Then came Michael Martinez, who singled home two more runs.
The offensive output continued in the fourth. Brad Coon and Danny Espinosa singled to start the inning, chasing Casey Kelly from the mound. Ryne Miller took over, and was greeted rather rudely, as Josh Johnson smacked a three-run homer on the second pitch he saw from the Portland reliever. Harrisburg added two more runs in the frame on a sacrifice fly by Tim Pahuta, as well as an RBI single by Jhonatan Solano.
Jordan Zimmermann allowed just one hit and two walks in four and two-thirds innings in his rehab start, but was ineligible for the win. Instead, the win went to Chuck James (6-0), who went three-plus scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, while striking out four. Casey Kelly (3-5) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs, seven hits, and two walks, while striking out two in three-plus innings.
The Sea Dogs and Senators will conclude their four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 2:00. Alex Wilson (3-3, 6.46) will get the call for Portland, while Harrisburg will counter with Aaron Thompson (4-11, 5.38).
