Suns Split Double Header with Power

The Hagerstown Suns (11-20, 44-46) split the double header to the West Virginia Power (13-18, 46-54) losing the first game 8-4 and coming back for the victory 9-3 in the second contest.

In the first game, West Virginia took the lead in the second inning putting three on the board after a home run by Rogelio Noris.

The Suns answered back as JP Ramirez hit a two run homer to right field.

The Power kept going as they scored three more in the third with a home run by Jose Hernandez making the score 6-2.

West Virginia scored a run in the fifth and another one in the seventh increasing their lead 8-2.

Rick Hague tried to give the Suns one last chance in the seventh as he hit a triple to right field bringing in one runner. The Suns put another on the board after Jeff Kobernus brought in Sandy Leon who reached on a single.

Washington National Jordan Zimmermann (0-1) had a rehab start tonight but got the loss pitching five innings with three strikeouts. Zimmermann struck out the first two batters he faced.

West Virginia Power reliever Eliecer Navarro (1-0) got the win coming in for the fifth giving up two runs with three strikeouts.

The second game was a different story for the Suns as they took every piece of momentum coming from behind as the Power scored a run in the first. Hagerstown scored seven runs after triples from both Destin Hood and Marcus Jones and a home run by Eury Perez.

With runners on first and second in the third, Eury Perez brought them in after a double increasing the lead 9-1.

The Power tried to catch up in the fifth Evan Chambers reached on a fielding error bringing in two runners. That was the Power's last hope as they lost the second game 9-3.

Evan Bronson (1-0) got the win for the Suns pitching five innings with six strikeouts. Dean Weaver replaced Bronson for the sixth giving up no runs. Rob Wort came in for the seventh to close the game with one strikeout and not giving up a run.

Getting the loss was Power's starting pitcher Quinton Miller who pitched just the first inning giving up seven runs.

The Suns will try to get a series tie tomorrow as they face the Power at 11:05 a.m. at Municipal Stadium.
