Salute to Cleveland Sports History This Saturday

July 22, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1) News Release

(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains, Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, will host its annual salute to the ups and downs of Cleveland Sports History on Saturday, July 24 at 7:00 PM. The inaugural event was named ESPN the Magazine's Minor League Promotion of the Year for 2009.

The night will feature Cleveland sports figures who will be signing autographs, as well as in-game features and contests highlighting memorable moments in Cleveland sports. The Captains plan to highlight, and in some cases, re-create memorable and infamous moments in Cleveland sports history during their in-game promotions. Several moments to be highlighted include "The Drive", a look at Cleveland sports villains and a look back at legendary Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes. The Captains will be selling tickets in their own "Dawg Pound" in the left field bleachers for the game that night for only $7.00. For every ticket sold in the Dawg Pound on Saturday the Captains will donate $1.00 to the Cleveland Animal Protective League (APL).

The Captains will also bring back "Ten-Cent Beer Night" with dime beers available from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This promotion proved to be an ill-fated one for the Indians in 1974 and led to the forfeiture of a game against the Texas Rangers.

Sports legends scheduled to appear include: former Indians Mike Hargrove, Dave Burba, Joe Charboneau, Len Barker, and Kevin Rhomberg. Former Cavaliers forward Larry Nance, former Browns wide receiver Brian Brennan, local product and former Notre Dame and NFL running back Tony Fisher, 4-time Olympic Gold Medalist in the 100M and 110M hurdles who grew up in Cleveland, Harrison Dillard, former Force and Crunch soccer star Hector Marinaro, and current Cleveland State soccer coach and former member of the Cleveland Force Ali Kazemaini will also attend. The Captains will salute Baldwin-Wallace College baseball coach Dr. Bob Fisher who recently retired after guiding the Yellow Jackets for 42 years and winning over 700 games. Just added, current Browns cornerback Brandon McDonald.

Mark Tromba, who was the Public Address Announcer when Jacobs Field opened and did the PA through both World Series appearances, will be on the microphone for a few innings as will former Cavaliers PA man, Ray Milavec.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Fans may visit CaptainsBaseball.com for information on alternate routes to and from Classic Park during the current construction that is taking place on Route 91. The Captains are working with the City of Eastlake and ODOT to ensure the smoothest possible traffic flow for fans attending games at Classic Park until the construction is completed.

The Lake County Captains are a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians and play their home games at Classic Park in Eastlake, at the corner of State Route 91 and Vine Street. For more information on the Captains, please visit the team's official website at www.CaptainsBaseball.com.
