Bees Clutch Pitching Too Much for Sox, Fall 5-3

July 3, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Dropping a tough match to the Salt Lake, the Sky Sox' sporadic offense was unable to plate runs when they needed them most, falling to the Bees, 5-3.

Looking for a little payback after last night's meltdown, Peter Bourjos and the Bees got to work immediately - homering to center on the second pitch of the ballgame; 1-0.

The Sox struck back quickly, however, continuing what has been a back-and-forth first two games. On the strength of a Chris Nelson solo homer, the Sky Sox knotted the score at one in the bottom of the second.

Paul McAnulty would be a thorn in the Sky Sox' side, however, launching a his second home run in the third inning, a two-run bomb that put the Bees on top, 3-1.

Though the Sky Sox would come would score in the bottom of the fourth, 3-2, the Bees would hold the lead for the balance of the night. The two teams exchanging lone scores in the seventh, the visitors took a 5-3 lead in the eighth before the game went final.

Undoubtedly one of the more frustrating games the team has played all year, every Sky Sox rally seemed to have a premature end. Despite twelve hits, three walks, and two errors, the clutch Bees pitching seemed to rear its head at the worst possible time.

The ninth, in particular, was especially frustrating. After loading the bases with two out, struggling closer Michael Kohn induced a tough-luck line out to center off Chris Nelson - ending the Sky Sox' threat and the game.

With the loss, the Sky Sox fall to 37-44 while the Bees rise to a game over .500, 41-40.

The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow as rehabbing starter Jorge De La Rosa (1-1, 1.80) takes on Salt Lake's Tim Kiely (0-2, 14.90). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
