Z's beat Express behind strong outing by West

New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

A two-run bottom of the fourth inning was all the New Orleans Zephyrs needed Friday night in a 6-1 win over the Round Rock Express.

After a lead off single in the fourth by third baseman Mike Lamb, shortstop Donnie Murphy laced a routine single into center field, that Round Rock's Yordany Ramirez turned into an adventure.

Ramirez first misjudged the ball, allowing it to drop in front of him - and then past him - as it rolled to the warning track. Lamb came around to score from first on the two-base error, and Murphy scored on Brett Carroll's chopper to the shortstop.

Logan Morrison added an RBI double in the fifth and a run-scoring single in the seventh, sandwiched around a two-run homer by catcher Brad Davis in the bottom of the sixth.

Zephyrs starting pitcher Sean West cruised through the Round Rock lineup, allowing just three hits and one walk through five innings of work while striking out five. With the win, West improves to 2-0 and has not allowed a run in three starts with the Zephyrs.

The NOLA bullpen combined to allow one run on four hits and one walk, while striking out two over four innings of work.

Round Rock starter Polin Trinidad (3-4) yielded five runs - two earned - in six innings.

The Z's and Express continue their four-game tilt tomorrow evening from Zephyr Field, as righty Adalberto Mendez (2-0, 0.96) faces off against Bud Norris, who makes his first rehab assignment after starting the year with the Houston Astros.
