Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA (May 17, 2010) - The Burlington Bees, in conjunction with the Kansas City Royals, have announced a series of transactions, including the promotion of left-handed pitcher John Lamb to High-A Wilmington.
Also on the move will be Ryan Stovall, who has been transferred from Burlington's disabled list to the Idaho Falls roster, and Keaton Hayenga, a right-handed pitcher who will join the Bees. Pitcher Kelvin Herrera was placed on the seven-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.
Lamb posted a 1.58 ERA in eight starts with the Bees, good for sixth in the Midwest League. Lamb struck out 43 batters in 40 innings, allowed 26 hits, walked 17, and finished with a 2-3 record. He saved his best work for his finale in Burlington, a seven-inning masterpiece against Peoria on Saturday night during which he allowed no runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk to pick up his second straight win. Lamb was originally selected by the Royals in the fifth round of the 2008 draft.
Joining the Bees in his place will be Hayenga. Like Lamb, Hayenga was listed among Baseball America's top thirty prospects in the Kansas City system, a status he earned while pitching with the Royals' Appalachian League affiliate in Burlington, N.C. last season. In 13 starts, Hayenga posted a 3.66 ERA in 66.1 innings with 34 strikeouts, 16 walks, a .249 opponents' batting average, and a 4-7 record.
Stovall departs are being disabled on May 4 with a right lower back strain. He batted .179 with six doubles, a triple, eight RBI, and a .501 OPS in 17 games.
After posting a 2.30 ERA through his first five starts, Herrera struggled to an 8.36 mark over his last three. He has missed much of the last two seasons with elbow problems.
The Bees will enjoy an off day on Monday before opening a three-game series against Clinton on Tuesday. Look for the coupon in The Hawk Eye to receive two general admission tickets for the price of one on Hawk Eye Two-for- Tuesday.
