Greenville Drive News Release
Charleston, WV - Coming into the season the Drive (9-6) were being heralded as a very fast team around the base paths. Fifteen games into the season they've shown that with 24 stolen bases. However, in Thursday night's 6-1 victory, they relied on the moniker of their opponent, power.
The Drive got on the scoreboard first, in the top of the second on a pair of round trippers. After having only hit back-to-back homers once in all of 2009, the Drive have done it twice in the early stages of 2010. Dan Butler rocketed a 1-0 offering to left for a two-run home run, and Ronald Bermudez promptly followed with a solo shot of his own.
Greenville extended its lead to 5-0 with single runs in the third and fifth innings. Jeremy Hazelbaker collected an RBI-single in the third, and Christian Vazquez's run-scoring groundout in the fifth.
Butler accounted for the game's final run in the top of the sixth when Butler led off the inning with a solo homer.
In winning their fourth straight game, the Drive received another solid effort from their pitching staff. Coming out of the bullpen, Pete Ruiz (3-1) fired 5.0 strong innings in which he allowed one run on three hits and a walk while fanning four.
Starting pitcher Ryan Pressly didn't factor into the decision despite a scoreless outing, going 3.0 innings. Anatanaer Batista struckout a pair in a perfect ninth inning.
The Drive and Power conclude their four game series on Friday with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM from Appalachian Power Park. Right-hander Yeiper Castillo (1-0, 3.86 ERA) will toe the slab for Greenville as they look to closeout a four-game sweep. Meanwhile, West Virginia will counter with right-hander Phillip Irwin (1-0, 1.64 ERA).
Following their eight-game road trip, the Drive return home to Fluor Field on Saturday, April 24th. Greenville will host the same two teams that they just visited, the Lexington Legends and West Virginia Power.
