Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs collected $12,744 for Special Olympics of New Hampshire and the Monarchs Care Foundation at the ninth annual "Shirt Off Our Back" event at the Monarchs last home game on April 9.
At the conclusion of every season, the Monarchs players hand over and sign their game-worn jerseys to the lucky winners of a raffle. Throughout the final eight home games, fans are encouraged to donate $1 for a raffle ticket in which they place in their favorite player's jersey bucket. At the final home game of the regular season, a ticket is drawn from each bucket and the winners are escorted down to the ice following the game to meet and receive a jersey from the players. All donations are given to Special Olympics of New Hampshire and the Monarchs Care Foundation.
The Monarchs also included two Wild Buckets at this season's "Shirt Off Our Back" event where two players' jerseys were raffled off and the winners did not have to be present at the game on April 9 to claim their prize.
Following the jersey raffle, eight Monarchs players' signed third jerseys were auctioned off to the highest bidder. Proceeds from defenseman Drew Bagnall, goaltender Jonathan Bernier, left wing Bud Holloway, right wing Trevor Lewis, center Andrei Loktionov, center Oscar Moller, right wing Kevin Westgarth and goaltender Jeff Zatkoff's jerseys brought this year's grand total to $12,744.
"The 'Shirt Off Our Back' event gives our fans a unique opportunity to meet the players as soon as they have finished a game and they receive a sweaty jersey right off the player's back," explained Monarchs Senior Vice President Cheryl Abbott. "We have the best fan in the American Hockey League and they continually support the team through our special events and help raise money for great charitable causes. It is an honor to continue to partner with Special Olympics of New Hampshire. Our collaboration results in tremendous assistance to the great work they do throughout the state."
Over the last nine seasons, the Monarchs have raised $128,927 for Special Olympics of New Hampshire and the Monarchs Care Foundation with their "Shirt Off Our Back" event.
