Chiefs Lose 8-2 In Return Home

Published on April 21, 2010 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Chiefs fell 8-2 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Wednesday night. It's the first time the Chiefs have lost back-to-back games this season.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was in control from the very beginning, tallying three runs in the first inning. The runs came on a three-run home run off the bat of Yankees first basemen Juan Miranda, his second long ball of the season. Scranton also added runs in the 3rd, 5th, 6th and 8th innings.

Chiefs third baseman Chase Lambin's strong season continued Wednesday. The third baseman reached base four times in five trips to the plate collecting three singles to raise his batting average to a team high .412. Seth Bynum broke out of a slump for the Chiefs, driving a Kei Igawa fourth inning pitch out of the park for his second homer of the season.

It was a balanced effort for the 7-6 Yankees as every hitter in the lineup registered a hit with the exception of designated hitter Jon Weber. Eduardo Nunez had a productive night for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, hitting two singles and walking twice. The shortstop also grabbed two stolen bases for the Yankees.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's bullpen was superb as four Yankees relievers combined to pitch 5 2/3 scoreless innings after Igawa's early departure. Collin Balester, who allowed five runs and struggled with his command all night, picked up his first loss of the season for Syracuse.

Chiefs pitcher Shairon Martis and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre righthander Jason Hirsh will go head-to-head tomorrow in the series finale at Alliance Bank Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
