Ramirez Shutout Six Stops Streak

April 17, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

After a run of success that lasted three games, the Intimidators had their three-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Hickory Crawdads by the score of 4-1. Starter Neil Ramirez was superb going six innings and picking up the win. The Intimidators (3-7) were held at bay by Ramirez (1-1) who allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out five. He hurled only 66 pitches in those six innings.

Matt Wickswat (0-2) pitched well but took the loss, he went five innings allowing two runs on one swing of the bat in the second inning. After a long battle, on the 11th pitch of the at-bat, first baseman Ed Koncel hit a two-run home run to give the Crawdads (5-5) the lead in the second inning of play.

The Crawdads added another two runs in the sixth, before the Intimidators came back with a run of their own on an RBI-double by Daniel Wagner, but it was not enough. The Crawdads bullpen rolled two ground ball double plays in the seventh and eighth innings to stop the Intimidators from beginning a rally.

The Intimidators and Crawdads will be back at it on Sunday at 5pm as Justin Collop (0-1) looks for redemption after struggling in his 2010 debut. He will be opposed by top prospect Joe Wieland (0-1).
