April 8, 2010 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
New York Liberty News Release
The New York Liberty today selected forward Kalana Greene of the University of Connecticut, guard Ashley Houts of the University of Georgia and Cory Montgomery of the University of Nebraska with the No. 13, No. 16 and No. 25 overall picks in the 2010 WNBA Draft.
Greene, a 5-10 forward, is a member of the back-to-back NCAA National Champion UCONN Lady Huskies, averaging 8.2 ppg and 4.7 rpg in the NCAA Tournament. A Saint Stephen, SC native, Greene assisted UCONN in setting a Division I record for most consecutive wins (78) and was named to the 2010 All-Big East First Team.
Houts, a 5-6 guard hailing from Trenton, GA, completed her senior season at Georgia averaging 12.4 ppg, 3.7 apg and 3.2 rpg. She was named to the Lowe's Senior CLASS First-Team All-American squad and the All-SEC First Team while leading the Lady Bulldogs to a 25-9 record and a "Sweet 16" appearance in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
Montgomery, a 6-2 forward, was a first-team All-Big 12 selection as a senior and averaged 10.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg and 2.7 apg as the Lady Huskers won its first-ever Big 12 title and earned its first NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16" berth in the program's history.
"We are delighted with this year's draft," said team President and General Manager Carol Blazejowski. "With our first pick we were very fortunate to be able to select Kalana Greene, a player who possesses great athleticism and a championship mentality. We believe this is another step in assembling a team that can challenge for the WNBA Championship this season."
New York City will be able to catch the Liberty and its newest additions in action at the home opener at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, May 16 at 4 p.m. versus the Chicago Sky. Individual game tickets are available for purchase beginning today at the Madison Square Garden Box Office, NYLiberty.com, by phone at (877) WNBA-TIX and all Ticketmaster outlets.
