Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- Shoppers Drug Mart is pleased to announce plans to give western Manitoba hockey fans the opportunity to choose the Brandon Wheat Kings' Player of the Year for the 2009-10 Western Hockey League season.

Beginning this week, Fan balloting will be available at both Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Brandon as well as online at www.wheatkings.com. Wheat Kings' fans can also cast a vote by visiting BDO Fan Services during all Wheat King home games at Westman Communications Group Place.

The Deadline to enter is Thursday, March 11th at 12 midnight, with the winner to be unveiled during Fan Appreciation Night, scheduled for Saturday, March 13th when the Wheat Kings play host to the Regina Pats.

Recent winners of the hockey club's Player of the Year Fan Voting have included the likes of Keith Aulie (2009), Matt Calvert (2008), Mark Derlago (2007), Codey Burki (2006) and Eric Fehr (2005).

This marks the third season that Shoppers Drug Mart has served as the Title Sponsor for the Fans Choice of Wheat Kings' Player of the Year Award.

In addition to this award, the Wheat Kings and their many sponsors will be handing out all of this year's trophies during and after the hockey club's final regular season game on March 13th at Westman Place.

On the ice, the Wheat Kings kick off a mini 2-game homestand Tuesday night against Jordan Eberle's Regina Pats. Brandon will be hoping to get back on the winning track after dropping a heartbreaking overtime decision in Saskatoon on Saturday night.

Entering the week, Brandon and Saskatoon remain tied atop the WHL's Eastern Conference with 78 points each. The Blades, however, still have three games in hand. Saskatoon will play the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday.

Tuesday's game is a presentation of Manitoba Canola Growers, with the first 500 fans in attendance to receive Yellow Thunderstix Noisemakers.

Tickets to Tuesday's game as well as Friday's tilt against the visiting Broncos are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
