Thunder Release Bobblehead Schedule
February 2, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release
On Tuesday, the Trenton Thunder, double A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced the schedule of collectible bobblehead dolls that will be given away at the entrances to Waterfront Park this season.
Thunder fans will receive bobblehead dolls at seven games in 2010, starting with Joba Chamberlain on Friday, April 23 against Portland (Boston Red Sox) courtesy of Dietz & Watson. RHP Joba Chamberlain burst onto the baseball scene in 2007 as he ascended from class A to the Major Leagues including a much-hyped stint with the Trenton Thunder. Chamberlain will be shown in his home "sleeveless" uniform.
On Friday, May 14 against Binghamton (New York Mets), fans will take home a doll featuring the likeness of Yankee RHP Phil Hughes thanks to Capital Health. Hughes was the Yankees number one rated prospect (according to Baseball America) while he was a member of the Thunder in 2006 and returned to Trenton in 2007 on a Major League rehab assignment. Hughes will be shown in his royal blue uniform.
Yankee OF Brett Gardner is on the bobblehead schedule for Friday, June 11 versus Binghamton courtesy of TD Bank. Gardner batted leadoff and played centerfield for the 2006 and 2007 Thunder. He will be shown catching a ball against the outfield wall in his royal blue uniform.
On Friday, July 2 against Harrisburg (Washington Nationals), fans will take home a bobblehead doll featuring Yankee C Francisco Cervelli courtesy of Hyundai. Cervelli joined Trenton in August 2008 and batted over.300 as the Thunder rolled to the Eastern League title. He returned for a brief stint in 2009 before being called up to New York. Cervelli will be shown wearing his catcher's gear and home pinstripe uniform.
Major League All-Star Robinson Cano will be featured on a bobblehead thanks to DQ Grill & Chill on Friday, July 16 against Reading (Philadelphia Phillies). Second basemen Robinson Cano was a fan favorite for the 2003 and 2004 Thunder before his debut in New York in 2005. The MLB career.306 batter returned to Trenton in 2006 on a rehab assignment. Cano will be shown fielding a ball and wearing his black batting practice uniform.
RHP David Robertson will be featured on Friday, August 6 versus Binghamton thanks to Arm & Hammer. Robertson helped the Thunder win the Eastern League title in his first year as a professional (2007) then returned in 2008 to hold opponents to a 0.96 ERA in nine games. He was then promoted and made his Major League debut for New York where he currently has a career MLB record of 6-1 with a 4.14 ERA. He will be shown in his home pinstripe uniform.
All six of the players above were members of the New York Yankees World Series Championship team in 2009.
The seventh bobblehead doll giveaway will occur at the season finale on Thursday, September 2 against Akron (Cleveland Indians). The doll will feature 2009 Thunder standout Jesus Montero courtesy of Verizon Wireless. The catcher is currently the number one ranked Yankee prospect (according to Baseball America). He will be shown in a batting stance wearing his home pinstripe uniform.
The Thunder recently announced a schedule of daily promotions that will occur throughout the season.
These include: Kids Eat Free Mondays, $1 Dog Tuesdays, Wacky Wednesdays, Thirsty Thursdays, Family Fun Fridays, Fireworks Spectacular Saturdays and Kids Rule Sundays. More details can be found on trentonthunder.com.
All Trenton Thunder tickets, including Mini Plans, Season Tickets, Group Outings and Luxury Suites are on sale now at trentonthunder.com or by calling 609-394-3300.
Trenton begins its 2010 season by hosting the Erie Sea Wolves (double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers) on Thursday, April 8. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
