Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX (Wednesday, January 27, 2010) -- The Houston Dynamo will begin preparing for their fifth season in Houston with their first day of training on Monday, February 1, at the Carl Lewis Track & Field Complex at the University of Houston.
Training is expected to run from 10-11:15 a.m. each day this week, with a scrimmage against Houston Baptist University set for Saturday, February 6, at 9 a.m. The schedule for the first five weeks of training is available at HoustonDynamo.com or by clicking on this link: http://www.mlsnet.com/t200/schedule/2010/preseason.jsp. The Dynamo's preseason roster is listed below.
Led by head coach Dominic Kinnear, whose career winning percentage of.598 (79-43-62) in MLS regular season games is the best in league history, the Dynamo are entering their fifth season in Houston. The Dynamo won back-to-back MLS Cup titles in 2006 and 2007 and have finished first or tied for first in the Western Conference in each of the last two seasons. Houston has also represented the United States in international competition consistently over the last three seasons and will do so again in SuperLiga 2010.
Kinnear's squad returns such stalwarts as forward Brian Ching, the club's all-time leading scorer (50 goals in all competitions) and a candidate for the United States national team for this summer's FIFA World Cup, and goalkeeper Pat Onstad, at 42 the oldest player in the league and the all-time MLS leader in goals against average (1.05). Midfielders Brad Davis, last year's team MVP with five goals and 12 assists in league play, and Geoff Cameron, an MLS Best XI selection as a defender last year, were recently called into camp for the U.S. national team.
Other returners with starting experience include defenders Wade Barrett, Bobby Boswell, Mike Chabala, Ryan Cochrane, Andrew Hainault, Eddie Robinson, and Craig Waibel; midfielders Corey Ashe, Brian Mullan, and Richard Mulrooney; and forwards Luis Angel LandÃn, Dominic Oduro, and Cam Weaver.
Houston will open its 2010 season on March 27 with a road game against FC Dallas. The Dynamo home opener will be on Thursday, April 1, against defending MLS Cup champion Real Salt Lake at 8 p.m. at Robertson Stadium.
The Dynamo will host the 2010 Major League Soccer All-Star Game this summer at Reliant Stadium, and tickets are available in Dynamo season ticket packages, on sale now at HoustonDynamo.com or by calling (713) 276-7500.
The Houston Dynamo are a Major League Soccer franchise that has won two MLS Cup championships in its first four seasons and represented the United States in four consecutive regional championships. For more information, log on to www.HoustonDynamo.com or call (713) 276-7500.
