Omaha Lancers News Release
OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers will see a lot of Red, White and Blue this Friday.
Not only will the Lancers be facing Team USA in United States Hockey League (USHL) competition this Friday evening. They will also welcome U.S. Olympic speed skater Kimberly Derrick to the Omaha Civic Auditorium as well as part of the evening's festivities. Friday's contest, which is presented by Mannatech, the Official Nutrition Company of the Omaha Lancers, will begin at 7:05 PM.
Derrick, 24, is presently ranked 3rd in the world in speed skating and is currently preparing to represent her country in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver beginning February 12. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Derrick received her first Olympic Winter Games experience in 2006 and returns four years later with a legitimate chance to capture multiple medals. Derrick's best chances to qualify for an individual medal in Vancouver are in the 1000m and 1500m while the U.S. women's speed skating team is one of the favorites to medal in the relay. Derrick is currently ranked 3rd in the World Cup standings in the 1000m and 7th in the 1500m and in the final World Cup event of the 2008-09 season, she won the 1000m.
Derrick will be on hand Friday evening to meet Lancers' fans as well as sign autographs. The Lancers (17-3, 34 Pts.) enter the week atop both the West Division and USHL standings and welcome Team USA's U18 squad Friday evening before hosting the Indiana Ice Saturday afternoon at 3:05 PM.
