
Cats win 2-1 on short handed goal

Faced with a shortage of seven regular players, the Moncton Wildcats came up with a strong effort to edge the Lewiston MAINEiacs 2-1 on Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first period, the Cats took the lead at 12:52 of the second on Scott Brannon's team leading 18th goal of the season. Ted Stephens and Alex Saulnier set up the power-play goal.
The MAINEiacs ruined Shane Owen's shut-out bid at 8:24 of the third with a goal by Billy Lacasse assisted by Michael Chaput. Daniel Pettersson, with a short handed goal on a perfect setup from David Savard and Scott Brannon got the game winner for Moncton at 14:30.
Shots on goal favored the Wildcats 32-27. On the power-play the Cats were 1 for 5, Lewiston went 0 for 4.
The games three stars went to Adrien Lemay of the MAINEiacs, the first star while Scott Brannon and Daniel Pettersson of the Wildcats were stars two and three.
The Wildcats face the Gatineau Olympiques at the Coliseum on Friday night at 7 pm.
