Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that goalie Andy Franck has been named the Oakley CHL Goalie of the Week for the period of Nov. 23-29.
Franck, 28, earned the second weekly award by a Killer Bees player in as many weeks (Grant Goeckner-Zoeller was last week's Oakley CHL Player of the Week.) He faced 149 shots in three-plus games, stopping 142 in 237 minutes played (1.77 GAA). The two-time CHL All-Star finished the week with a.953 save percentage.
Franck secured wins over Bossier-Shreveport (5-3, Wednesday) and Amarillo (4-1, Friday). He also helped RGV earn a point over league-leading Odessa in a 3-2 shootout loss by stopping 40 of 43 shots on Saturday. In his win versus the Mudbugs on Wednesday, the Lakewood, Ohio, native made a season-high 47 saves (second-most in a CHL game this season, 48 by Joel Martin of Odessa).
Franck stopped 32 shots at Amarillo on Friday and made 22 saves on 23 shots in a relief role on Sunday at Allen.
In recognition of his efforts, Franck will receive a gift from Oakley and the CHL.
The Killer Bees return home on Wednesday night against their arch-rivals the Laredo Bucks. Winter Texans can purchase $6 tickets (advance purchase only) by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825). Hot dogs, popcorn and soda are $1 all night long for everyone.
