Bridgeport, CT, November 7, 2009 - Corey Locke, Bobby Sanguinetti and Evgeny Grachev all had a goal and an assist each, and Chad Johnson made 28 saves, Saturday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard, as the Hartford Wolf Pack defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-1, in the first meeting of the year between the two Connecticut rivals.
The win was the Wolf Pack's fourth straight and sixth in their last seven games.
The first 15:00 of the first period were scoreless and tightly-played, but the Wolf Pack began the scoring with two goals in a span of 1:55 starting at 15:05.
Mathieu Dandenault registered his first Wolf Pack, and first AHL, point at 15:05, as pressured the net and deflected Andres Ambuhl's feed from the top of the left circle past Bridgeport goaltender Nathan Lawson.
Then, at 17:00, Hartford's league-leading power play converted on a four-on-three situation, with Locke scoring his ninth of the year from the bottom of the right circle. P.A. Parenteau found Locke with a quick pass across the goalmouth.
The Wolf Pack doubled its lead in the second period, on goals by Grachev and Sanguinetti.
Grachev scored off a rush on a hard snapshot from the left side of the slot at 8:26, and Sanguinetti's goal was on a five-on-three power play at 15:33. Off of a mad goalmouth scramble, Sanguinetti jumped on a loose puck in the left circle and buried it behind Lawson.
The only goal of the third period was a four-on-three power-play tally by Bridgeport's Dustin Kohn at 6:30. Kohn drove a shot from the middle of the blue line through a screen and past Johnson, ruining Johnson's shutout bid.
The victory improved the Wolf Pack's record on the year to 8-6-0-0 for 16 points, and lifted them into third place in the Atlantic Division.
