KEARNEY, NE - Los Angeles Kings Right Winger Scott Parse made his NHL debut this past weekend as the Kings defeated the Phoenix Coyotes (5-3 on Saturday) and Columbus Blue Jackets (6-2 on Sunday). Parse, the former Tri-City Storm forward, had an assist in each win for the Kings.
"When you go back to the minors this year, after not getting that opportunity (in the preseason), maybe he's thinking, 'Hey, I've got to start to prove some things to some people.' He has come up here and he's doing a great job fitting in," said Kings Head Coach Terry Murray.
The 25-year old from Kalamazoo, Michigan, played in 48 games for the Storm in 2002-2003 and he was second in scoring that season with 21 goals and 23 assists (44 points). Bill Thomas led that team in scoring with 29 goals and 21 assists (50 points), although Parse played in 12 fewer games that season.
Murray went on to say more about Parse... "He's smart, he plays, he reads, he scans the ice, (and) he makes good decisions. He has always had good puck skills. You take a look at his resume. Through the time he came to the L.A. Kings as a draft pick, he's got an outstanding resume on the offensive part of it. (Parse is an) All-star player, and it takes time to figure it out."
After playing one season with the Storm, Parse headed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha and played four seasons for the Mavericks. During his college career, he had 79 goals and 118 assists that totaled 197 points in 159 games. He led the Mavericks in scoring for all four seasons in college.
Parse now joins a list of NHLers from the Storm, which includes Thomas, Christian Hanson, Steve Wagner, Peter Mannino and Jack Hillen.
The Tri-City Storm is member of the 14-team United States Hockey League, which has teams in nine states throughout the Midwest. The USHL is the top junior league ages 20 and under in North America for developing NCAA prospects and NHL prospects.
