Condors Return Home & Pogge Recalled By Ducks

October 26, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL) Bakersfield Condors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors compiled a 2-1-0-0 week on a three-game road trip against the Victoria Salmon Kings, keeping them in an early lead atop the Pacific Division, with an overall record of 3-2-0-0 (6 points). Their upcoming week features three matches, with two on home ice.

Justin Pogge recalled by Ducks

For the second time in less than a week, the Anaheim Ducks recalled G Justin Pogge from Bakersfield, sending him straight to the National Hockey League. Pogge, 23, was sent back to the Condors last week after a one-day recall to Anaheim, and joined the team on their road trip to Victoria. He was between the pipes on both Friday and Saturday, picking up a 33-save win against the Salmon Kings Saturday night to improve to 2-1-0.

His 2.10 goals against average and .923 save percentage both lead the team and rank 10th overall in the ECHL. Pogge also has one shutout on the season, on Opening Night against the Ontario Reign. He is 1-4-1 in seven NHL appearances in his career, all with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

G Timo Pielmeier recorded his first pro victory on Wednesday night. The Condors win on Wednesday was their first in Victoria since Jan. 15, 2008. They went 0-4 last season in Victoria, and just 1-2-2 in 2008-09. 5 of the Condors 14 goals (36%) have come from defensemen this season, and 3 of the top 7 scorers on the team are blueliners. Last season, only 12% of the Condors goals came from defensemen and not one finished in the top 7 on the team. Rookie C MacGregor Sharp scored his first two goals of the season on Saturday however they aren't the first goals of his pro career. The Minnesota-Duluth product had 1g-1a in 6 AHL games at the end of last season with Iowa, the Ducks AHL affiliate. D Stu Bickel has twice been a +3 this season. Although this is his second pro season, his 21 games played last year in the AHL fall four games shy of disqualifying him as a rookie. RW Dan Sexton and LW Shawn Weller have recorded at least one point in four of the Condors five games.
