Peoria Rivermen News Release

PEORIA, Ill. (October 21, 2009) - The Peoria Rivermen outshot the Rockford IceHogs 18-2 in the first period to help them build a 3-0 lead that turned into a 4-1 win at Carver Arena on Wednesday night. Ben Bishop made 28 saves and only allowed one goal in front of 3,696 fans while Yan Stastny extended his goal-streak to three games and his point-streak to six games.

Rivermen fans didn't have to wait too long to see their team jump out to an early lead that they would never relinquish. At 5:32 of the first, after a failed breakout, Rivermen defenseman Bryce Lampman found his defensive partner Danny Richmond who head-manned the puck to a streaking Barry Tallackson across neutral ice. Having no one step up to defend him, Tallackson fired a wrist shot from the top of the right circle to beat a surprised IceHogs goalie Joe Fallon just inside the glove-hand post. It was Tallackson's second goal of the year.

Less than two minutes later, Stastny extended the longest AHL point-streak of the season after a tape-to-tape pass from Jonas Junland. Lars Eller also picked up his fourth assist of the season on the scoring effort. The Rivermen defensive play showed its strength as they limited the Ice Hogs without a shot for the first 13:40 of the first period.

A turnover in the neutral zone led to the Rivermen's next tally in the first. With Rockford caught half way in a line change, Richmond intercepted a weak pass, pushed it ahead to Stastny who fired it on net. Crashing the net and snapping home the loose rebound was Nicholas Drazenovic, grabbing his second goal of the year.

The second period was Bishop's time to shine. As the Ice Hogs caught up in the shot department, Bishop turned away every shot he faced, including some really solid Rockford scoring chances. It wasn't until 15:44 of the second when the Rivermen padded their lead with their fourth goal of the night, a wrap around attempt from Chris Porter, his second goal of the year. Adam Cracknell was credited with the assist, his first point of the year.

The IceHogs would get on the board 7:12 into the third when Kyle Greentree tipped a Richard Petiot shot past Bishop for his first goal of the season. Moments later, the Rivermen lead would be put to the test when Stastny took a hooking penalty that left his team facing a five-on-three disadvantage for 1:29.

The penalty kill did not disappoint as Rockford controlled the puck for the duration of their power play, but Bishop and company fended off the IceHogs attack.

Things were chippy as the game involved a fight between Mitch Love and Bracken Kearns and featured rough play following Nathan Davis running hard into Bishop late in the third period. The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at Carver Arena at 7 p.m.

Twilight's Kellan Lutz will appear and sign autographs from 6-9p.m. Tickets are available at the Peoria Civic Center box office, by calling the Rivermen office at 309-676-1040 or online at www.rivermen.net/tickets.
