Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, October 21, 2009) - It can honestly be said that 2009 is the most contested Major League Soccer Playoffs race in the 14-year history of the league.
Going into the final weekend of regular season action, seven teams will be battling it out all vying for the three remaining postseason spots.
For the Rapids, it's simple: win and get in.
Colorado could also clinch a playoff berth with a tie, or even a loss, depending on other MLS Week 32 results.
The Rapids travel to Rio Tinto Stadium to face rivals Real Salt Lake this Saturday, October 24 at 7 pm MT in a nationally televised game on Fox Soccer Channel.
The following are scenarios in order for the Rapids to earn a postseason berth this weekend:
The Colorado Rapids will qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs IF:
- Colorado defeat Real Salt Lake on Saturday OR - Colorado ties Real Salt Lake AND the four teams on 39 points all lose or all tie OR IF only one of Toronto FC, New England, D.C. United and FC Dallas win.
Note: If Colorado lose to Real Salt Lake, they hope to do so by less than a two-goal margin and that less than two teams with 39 points win this week.
