Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced goaltender Kevin Regan ["REE gan"] has been assigned by the Boston Bruins from the Providence Bruins of the AHL to the Royals. In a separate transaction, goaltender Andrew Engelage has been recalled from the Royals to the Marlies.
Last year, Regan (6'1/190) (25), who hails from South Boston, Massachusetts, went 9-7-2 with a 2.99 goals against average and an .896 save percentage in twenty-one games for Providence. Regan also played a total of six games in the ECHL last year-two for the Gwinnett Gladiators (1-1-0, 2.50, .904) and four for the Alaska Aces (2-2-0, 2.47, .924). Regan, who is entering his second full pro season, started his pro career on the right note when he blanked the Manchester Monarchs on twenty-three shots in his pro debut on April 12, 2008 after completing his collegiate career at the University of New Hampshire. That college career was replete with records, honors and awards as Regan established a number of career marks for the school, including wins by a goaltender (70), saves (3,235), save percentage (.928), and games played (112) in his four years with the Wildcats. During his senior season at UNH, Regan, a ninth round pick of the Boston Bruins in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, became the first goaltender in school history to register twenty or more wins in back-to-back seasons, as he garnered (among other honors) his second consecutive team Most Valuable Player award, a selection as a First Team All-American, a unanimous choice as Hockey East's Player of the Year, and recognition as a finalist for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award, which is bestowed upon college hockey's best player.
The Royals open the 2009-10 ECHL season on Thursday, October 15, 2009 (7:05 pm) when the Kalamazoo Wings make their first visit ever to the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. Season tickets for the Royals' 2009-10 season are currently available. To become a part of Royals hockey, call 610-898-PUCK or log onto www.royalshockey.com .
