Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team's Vice President of Player Personnel, Gersson Rosas, has been named General Manager of the team's NBA Development League affiliate the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. In his new role, Rosas will oversee all aspects of the Vipers' daily basketball operations.
"Gersson has distinguished himself as a top evaluator of young talent over the years," said Morey. "In his new role with the Vipers he will play a vital role in developing our younger players as well as ensuring a complete integration of the Vipers with our Rockets operations."
Rosas enters his sixth season with the Rockets and was elevated to the position of Vice President of Player Personnel in September. In addition to his Vipers responsibilities, Rosas will continue to assist Morey in all Rockets basketball operations including player personnel matters, the evaluation of draft prospects, free agency and trade prospects. Additionally, he will continue to oversee the Rockets' domestic and international scouting departments.
"I would like to thank Daryl and Rockets Owner Leslie Alexander for showing confidence in my abilities and affording me this great opportunity to be directly involved in the development of our young talent," said Rosas. "I look forward to leading our personnel group in working with Coach Finch and the Vipers organization to develop our young players, and bring an exciting brand of professional basketball to The Valley. We also believe that this will be a productive personnel extension of the Houston Rockets."
In 2008-09, Rosas served as Houston's Director of Player Personnel after working a season as the team's Director of Scouting and three campaigns as the team's Personnel Scout/Video Coordinator. Prior to his present stint with the Rockets, Rosas was the head coach of the Global Games Prep USA Team during the summer of 2004. His experience also includes work as a graduate assistant for the University of Houston's men's basketball team (2003-04), as an assistant coach on Westbury Christian High School's state championship team (2002-03) and as a basketball coordinator for the Venezuelan Basketball Federation during the 2002 World Basketball Championships.
Additionally, Rosas has been an active participant the past four years in the NBA's Basketball Without Borders program, the league's global basketball development and community outreach program, including serving this past summer as the Americas Camp Director in Mexico City. He also has served as director of college counselors at RBKU All-American Camp (2007, 2008) and as camp coach at the Reebok ABCD Camp (2006, 2007).
