Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Andrew Perugini (pair-uh-JEE-nee) has been assigned to the Thunder from Springfield.

Perugini, 21, is the tenth returning player from last year's team that finished 22-16-3 and advanced to the seventh game of the second round (Pacific Division Final) of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound goaltender is under contract to Springfield and has participated in Oilers preseason training camp the last two seasons. He appeared in 37 games for the Thunder during his rookie season last year, going 21-13-3 with two shutouts, a .908 save percentage and 2.82 goals-against-average.

Last year, Perugini became the second goaltender in Thunder history to surpass the 20-win plateau (Devan Dubnyk, 2006-07) and tied a Thunder record with nine consecutive wins (Dubnyk, 2006-07), ending Feb. 13 in a 2-1 shootout win against Utah.

The King City, Ontario native earned Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors (ending Mar. 1) with a 3-0-0 record (including a shootout win), 1.62 goals-against-average and .947 save percentage during the week. Amidst his torrid 9-0-0 run which spanned the first two months of the 2009 calendar year, Perugini finished runner up for the RBC Financial ECHL Saver of the Month for January.

Perugini spent his junior career with the Barrie Colts and Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League, amassing a record of 75-40-3 in 123 games while totaling six career shutouts, a .915 save percentage and 3.00 goals-against-average. Perugini set a Colts record with 40 wins in 2006-07, earning an OHL All-Star selection while notching a career-best four shutouts and 2.83 goals-against-average in 57 games.

Perugini will be a part of the team that hosts "FanFest" on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena, where admission is free to the public.

The Thunder returns to the ice for preseason play on Thursday, Oct. 8 against the Bakersfield Condors, starting at 7:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena. The 2009-10 season, the Fifth Year Anniversary for the team, launches on Friday, Oct. 16 at Qwest Arena against the Idaho Steelheads at 6:10 p.m. and the Thunder home opener is Friday, Oct. 23 against the Ontario Reign at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena.

The Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew 223,854 fans to Stockton Arena in 2008-09.
