Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - Fresno claimed an early lead in the series opener with Memphis and rolled to a 5-3 win Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.
The Grizzlies scored twice in the second inning and never looked back. Doubles from John Bowker and Ben Copeland led to both runs. Copeland's double drove in Bowker and Ryan Rohlinger's single scored Copeland. A pair of Redbirds errors in the third inning helped Fresno to three more runs and a 5-1 lead. All three Redbirds runs came via the long ball with Troy Glaus hitting his first home run of the year, a solo blast in the second. David Freese added his sixth round tripper of the season in the ninth with a two-run shot.
Fresno starter Steve Hammond earned his ninth win of the year seven strong innings. The lefty allowed one run on three hits over seven innings. Memphis starter Trey Hearne was pinned with the loss giving up five runs, three earned, on nine hits in 6.2 innings.
Memphis turns to left-hander Jaime Garcia tomorrow night to end the club's four-game slide. Fresno will counter with 10-game winner Kevin Pucetas on the hill. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. For ticket information call 901.721.6000 or visit memphisredbirds.com.
