Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Colorado Springs Sky Sox threw the fourth no-hitter in franchise history and second this season as they shutout the Oklahoma City RedHawks 5-0 on Tuesday night.
Four pitchers combined to toss the no-no with recently arrived Jhoulys Chacin (joh-LEES, cha-SEEN) starting the contest and tossing 5.1 innings before reaching his pitch count for the night. Relievers Joel Peralta, Juan Rincon and Randy Flores combined to work the final 3.2 innings to preserve the historic moment. Chacin (1-0) threw 68 total pitches, walked three and struck out three in winning his Triple-A debut after being sent down by the Rockies. The trio of relievers of didn't walk a batter and struck out six.
The no-hitter was the second of the season for the Sox following the perfect game thrown by Brandon Hynick against the Portland Beavers on July 1st. The other two no-hitters thrown were in 2008 and in 2001, both also combined nine-inning no-hitters.
Offensively, the Sky Sox plated four runs in the sixth inning and a lone tally in the eighth to provide more than enough offense on the night. In the sixth, Matt Murton got the scoring going with an RBI single and then came around to score with Matt Miller on a two-run single by Christian Colonel. Edwin Bellorin then doubled in the fourth run of the inning to cap of the scoring in the sixth. Paul McAnulty singled in Colonel in the eighth to register his first RBI since joining the Sky Sox and post the final run.
