Wingers Return To Reign

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and AHL Manchester Monarchs, announced today that they have signed right wing Denny Johnston and left wing Doug Spooner to standard player contracts for the 2009-2010 season.

2-27 vs Johnston Holloway.jpgJohnston, 27, split the 2008-2009 season between the Manchester Monarchs (AHL) and the Reign. The Rosetown, Saskatchewan native played 20 games with Ontario, posting nine points and five goals, and 27 penalty minutes. Johnston appeared in all seven games of the post-season, recording one point and two minutes in the box. Spooner.jpg Spooner, 25, appeared in seven games with the Reign last season after signing an amateur tryout agreement with the club in March. The left wing notched one goal and four penalty minutes in his first stint with a professional club. Prior to joining the Reign, Spooner, who hails from Scarborough, Ontario, spent five seasons with the University of Waterloo Warriors (CIS), appearing in 129 regular season games and registering 118 points and 62 goals and 154 penalty minutes.

Reign Drops: The Reign open the 2009-2010 season Friday, October 16 in Bakersfield with the home opening at Citizens Business Bank Arena weekend beginning Friday, October 30, Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1.
