Chiefs Announce 2009 Preseason Schedule

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch announced today that they will take on their long-time rivals, the Wheeling Nailers, in two preseason games in preparation for the 2009-10 season.

Johnstown will open the preseason on Wednesday, October 7 with a 7:05 p.m. game at WesBanco Arena. This season's edition of the Chiefs will take to home ice for the first time on Saturday, October 10 when the Nailers visit for a 6:05 p.m. start. Tickets for the Chiefs' home preseason game will be available to the public while season ticket holders will get free admission to the contest.

Johnstown and Wheeling have the longest-running rivalry in the ECHL having played each other 163 times, and are scheduled to face each other 10 times in 2009-10. The Chiefs hold a 77-70-16 record all-time against Wheeling including a 5-6-1 mark last season.

The Chiefs also announced today a date change for one of their away games. The game originally scheduled for December 10, 2008 at Cincinnati will now be played on January 25, 2010 at Cincinnati.

The Chiefs begin their 22nd season of play in the ECHL on Saturday, October 17 against the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:30 p.m. ET.
