Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

The Phillies traded four BlueClaws, one current (Jason Knapp), and three former (Carlos Carrasco, Jason Donald, Lou Marson) on Wednesday to the Indians to land Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee. The current BlueClaw, 18-year old Jason Knapp, goes to Cleveland after striking out 111 in 85.2 innings with Lakewood this year.

"Jason did a great job for us," said BlueClaws manager Dusty Wathan. "He''s very advanced for his age and the Indians are getting a great kid too. We wish him the best."

Carrasco, a 22-year old right-hander was 12-6 with a 2.26 ERA with Lakewood in the championship season of 2006, and was 6-9, 5.19 with Triple-A Lehigh Valley this year. He was ranked 2nd entering the season in the Phillies system by Baseball America.

Marson, Lakewood's starting catcher on the 2006 team, also goes to the Indians. A 4th round pick in 2004, Marson made his big league debut last year. He was hitting .295 with Lehigh Valley at the time of the trade and entered the year ranked 3rd in the system.

Donald, a Phillies 3rd-round pick in 2006, spent the first two months of the season as Lakewood's shortstop. He hit .310 for the BlueClaws that year before a promotion, and he's hitting .230 with Lehigh Valley in 2009. He is the 4th ranked prospect in the system according to Baseball America.

"Over the first nine years here, we've seen so many great young players come through Lakewood," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "Each of these guys were as good off the field as they were on it, and we wish them all the success in the world."

The last active-BlueClaw to be traded was Andy Barb, who was traded with Andrew Baldwin, for Jamie Moyer in 2006. Javon Moran, in 2004, was traded to the Reds as part of a deal where the Phillies acquired Cory Lidle. These were the only two trades involving active members of the BlueClaws.
