Pearl, MS - The Mississippi Braves announce that LHP Scott Diamond has been added to the 2009 Southern League All-Star team. Diamond joins teammates Kyle Cofield, JC Boscan and Matt Young on the South Division squad.
Diamond has compiled a 3-9 record for the M-Braves this year - not very all-star worthy. But consider that he's given up three earned runs or less in 14 of his 17 starts, including a stretch were he allowed only one earned run in seven of nine outings, and it's obvious why he's a Southern League All-Star. Diamond has nine quality starts on the year and has an ERA of 3.47.
The 2009 Southern League All-Star will be held at Regions Park in Birmingham, AL on Monday, July 13th. The M-Braves will return to Trustmark Park on Wednesday, July 15th for a five-game series against the Huntsville Stars.
