July 8, 2009 - California League (CalL1)
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Lancaster wasted no time in scoring the game's first run as JB Shuck drew a leadoff walk, stole second and went to third on a single against Quakes starter Jeremy Thorne. Jon Gaston then lined into a double play for the first and second outs of the inning, but Shuck remained at third. TJ Steele then came up and beat out a ground ball to third to score Shuck and give the JetHawks a 1-0 lead.
The Quakes evened the score in the bottom of the first as Andrew Romine singled with one out and advanced to second on a fielding error by the center fielder to get into scoring position. With Efren Navarro at the plate, Romine stole third and eventually scored on an RBI ground out from Navarro to tie the game 1-1.
The JetHawks answered in the 2nd as Koby Clemens lead off with a double and scored with one out on a Craig Corrado RBI single to take a 2-1 lead.
Rancho came back against JetHawks starter Chris Hicks in the 3rd as Jeremy Moore belted a solo home run to tie the game 2-2.
The score stayed 2-2 until the top of the 5th when JB Shuck hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot, to give Lancaster a 3-2 lead.
Lancaster broke the game open in the top of the 7th with two outs as they got back to back singles and an RBI double from TJ Steel to take a 4-2 lead and knock Thorne from the game. Mike Kenney came in out of the pen and got a ground ball to first, but it was booted by Efren Navarro allowing two runs to score, swelling the JetHawks lead to 6-2.
The Quakes got one of those runs back in the bottom of the 7th as Jeremy Moore doubled to left-center to drive in Alberto Rosario, cutting the lead in half at 6-3.
Lancaster scored a run in the 9th against Ysmael Carmona on a double by Matt Weston to lead 7-3 and the game ended with that score.
The Quakes will continue their three game series with Lancaster Wednesday. Left hander Alexander Torres will start for the Quakes against right hander Casey Hudspeth. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
