CalL1 Lancaster JetHawks

Quakes Pitchers Strike Out 12 in 6-3 Win

July 8, 2009 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) - Overall the JetHawks played another strong game, but one bad inning got in the way as their chance for their first four-game win streak went by the wayside Wednesday night. The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes scored five times in the second inning then hung on from there in a 6-3 win. That snaps the JetHawks win streak at three.

The decisive inning proved to be the second. JetHawks starter Casey Hudspeth got into trouble with a leadoff walk and allowed five runs in the frame. He went on to pitch five shutout innings after that but the damage was already done.

Lancaster struggled before finally breaking through against Quakes starter Alex Torres in the fifth inning for a run. They closed the gap to just two with a pair of solo home runs in the seventh inning off the bats of Koby Clemens and Marcos Cabral. However, after getting back to within reach, the JetHawks were unable to get any runners in the final two innings against the Quakes bullpen. Lancaster was held to a season-low three hits.

The JetHawks will meet the Quakes for the final time of the season Thursday night. Bryan Hallberg (3-3) starts for Lancaster against Rancho Cucamonga's Michael Anton (1-0). The game will begin at 7:05 with the radio broadcast carried live on Magic 1340 AM and online at JetHawks.com. The Pre-Game Show starts at 6:50.

The JetHawks return home Friday, July 10 to open a four-game homestand against the Inland Empire 66ers. Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400.
