July 8, 2009 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) - Different ballpark; same result. The Lancaster JetHawks got strong starting pitching and relief pitching, as well as plenty of offense as they opened their final series against Rancho Cucamonga with a 7-3 win Tuesday night. After back-to-back wins at Inland Empire, Lancaster has now put together three straight road wins for the first time this season. They move out of last place in the Southern Division and are now just two games out of first place in the second half.
For the fourth straight game, the JetHawks scored first when T.J. Steele singled in J.B. Shuck in the opening inning. The Quakes tied the game in the first, and then the JetHawks went back on top in the second inning on a single by Craig Corrado. Rancho Cucamonga knotted the game up once more before the JetHawks took the lead for good in the fifth inning on the first home run of the season by Shuck. They added three more in the seventh to help pull away.
Most importantly, the pitching did their part once again for Lancaster. Chris Hicks turned in his third straight quality start, hurling six solid innings to win his team-best eighth game. Chris Salamida came out of the bullpen for three solid innings of relief to get his first save.
The JetHawks will look for their first four-game winning streak of the season Wednesday night when they battle the Quakes. Casey Hudspeth (0-1) starts for Lancaster against the Quakes' Alexander Torres (5-3). The game will begin at 7:05 with the radio broadcast carried live on Magic 1340 AM and online at JetHawks.com.
The coverage begins at 5 PM with the JetHawks Clubhouse Show. Special guests will include Arizona Diamondbacks catcher and former JetHawk Miguel Montero, as well as Lancaster manager Wes Clements.
The JetHawks return home Friday, July 10 to open a four-game homestand against the Inland Empire 66ers. Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400.
