Carolina Mudcats News Release

Chattanooga, TN --- The Chattanooga Lookouts scored twice in the seventh inning against Carolina's Ruben Medina to crack a 2-2 tie as the Lookouts defeated the Mudcats 4-3 at AT&T Field on Friday night before a sold out crowd of 6,393 fans.

Medina (L, 1-4) entered after Travis Wood pitched the first six innings, allowing two runs - one earned. Medina hit the leadoff hitter, then permitted a hit-and-run single to right by pinch-hitter Tommy Giles, pushing Russ Mitchell to third. A passed ball by Korey Feiner followed to give Chattanooga (6-6) a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, Ramon Nivar drilled an infield single down the third base line to move the lead to 4-2.

The Mudcats (3-9), who dropped four of six in the series to Chattanooga, rallied to tie the score twice in the early innings, using a balk in the second from starter JD Durbin to bring home Todd Frazier from third. Then in the third, Jose Castro struck a triple over the head of Mitchell in right field to score Sean Henry to tie the score 2-2.

Wood remained unbeaten in his 12th consecutive start, earning no-decisions in his two starts against the Lookouts in the series.

Trailing 4-2 in the ninth, a bunt single by Frazier sparked hope for Carolina. Eric Eymann singled to right before Steven Chapman fanned. Carson Kainer singled down the left field side to score Frazier, however left fielder Andrew Lambo stopped the ball from rolling deeper, keeping Eymann at second base. Korey Feiner struck out looking and pinch-hitter Jerry Gil fanned to end the game. Carolina manager David Bell did not have the services of three bench players, as Juan Francisco, Logan Parker and Shaun Cumberland were all unavailable due to injuries.

Carolina returns home to celebrate Independence Day before a sold out crowd Saturday night at 7:15 PM against the Tennessee Smokies. Camilo Vazquez will start for the Mudcats. The gates at Five County open at 5:30 PM ET.
